MAKE FRIENDS WITH
JESUS STUDY
April 6 - Jesus Before the
Incarnation - Did
you know that the Bible has quite a bit of information about Jesus before he was
born into this world? His story "begins before the beginning" when he was in
eternity with the Father and the Holy Spirit. We will explore what the Bible
says about his eternal existence and look at his appearances to God's people
before he finally entered the world as Mary and Joseph's newborn
baby.
April 13 - Jesus and the Prophets - The
prophets in the Old Testament foretold the facts about Jesus the Messiah and it
is miraculous how his life, death and resurrection fulfilled hundreds of their
predictions. We will give these ancient writings new life as we line them up
with the story of Jesus.
April 20 - The World Jesus Lived In
- Jesus was born
into a particular place and time and we will understand him better if we get to
know the world he lived in. We will look at the people, places and world events
that surrounded Jesus as he grew up and became a rabbi. This context will help
us understand the way people responded to him then...and give us insight into
the way people respond to him now.
April 27 - How to Think About Jesus
- Jesus is often
seen as a two dimensional literary figure because we learn about him mostly from
hearing or reading Bible stories about him. We know a few of the facts and
stories, but they get jumbled in our minds and there doesn't seem to be enough
information to really help us model our lives on his. We talk about Jesus a lot
without really knowing him. As we begin our studies of his life we are going to
develop a few key approaches that will help us see who he is as our living
Savior...alive today and perpetually present and active in the world around us.
May 4 - First week of our
Chronological Study of the Life of Jesus - We will harmonize the accounts of
the life of Jesus from all four Gospels, using maps and timelines and outlining
all of his life events and teachings in order. You might be thinking,
won't that take a lot of weeks? Well, yes, I expect it will, but it will be
a thrilling course of study and I expect many lives to change as a result! I
promise there will never be a dull moment (I hope).
As always at WINGS, we plan to do this study in an interactive, lively
way with lots of questions and discussion. I hope to share the teaching
experience with some other teachers who are also passionate about Jesus. Most
of all, I expect that studying about Jesus is going to shape our minds and
hearts and influence the way we live our lives. Come join us!
